About Concord eXpress
Concord
eXpress has been entertaining audiences in the Greater Boston, Massachusetts
area since 2003. In October of 2005, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, this quartet was
awarded 4th place medals while competing against 30 quartets from New England
and Eastern Canada. Concord eXpress enjoys singing a wide variety of songs,
including barbershop "up" tunes, tender love songs, swing tunes, doo
wop, and even some favorites from the 50's and 60's. So no matter what your
group or function, you can be sure that everyone will soon be smiling and
tapping their feet when they hear the close harmony and ringing chords of Concord eXpress.
Ted Blank sings the Tenor part. Ted was smitten with the
Barbershop bug when he heard a quartet sing in music class in 7th grade.
He started singing with a chapter in Syracuse,
NY in 1968 but then took a rather
long break and returned to Barbershop with the San Jose, California
Garden City Chorus in 1998. He is currently Tenor section
leader of the Seacoast Vocal Union in
Portsmouth, NH.
He has sung with several area quartets and also enjoys participating in
the Harmony Brigade quartetting program. Ted is proud and happy to be the
newest member of Concord
eXpress!

Rob Freundlich is the quartet’s Lead. He was hooked
by barbershop after hearing a chorus sing at Boston’s Harborfest in 1995. Since then he
has sung with the Wellesley, Medway,
and Concord (MA) chapters. Rob serves as Webmaster for Concord eXpress, and in real life is a
software engineer.
Doug Burum sings Baritone. His
interest in barbershop began in 1970, singing Lead in—you guessed it—a high
school production of The Music Man. Over the years, Doug became active
with school and community choruses and theater productions, but it was not
until 2002 that he got back into barbershop with the Sounds of
Concord chorus and then
Concord
eXpress. By then, he had found his true calling, switching to Baritone. Doug has a PhD in physics, and works as a registered patent agent.
Steve
Nester is our Bass.
His father was the director of the Crimson Chords chorus in Utica, NY,
and got Steve into barbershopping as a youngster. Steve sang Bass (apparently
after his voice changed) as part of the quartet in a high school production of
The Music Man. Barbershopping since 1977, he has sung in many quartets, notably
two other Northeastern District finalist quartets: Sound Alternative and
By Storm. Steve is a software engineer by occupation.
Concord
eXpress also wants to thank our founding member and former Tenor, Larry Horwitz, who has retired to Florida. We all wish him well!
